Welcome Art Lover!

Hi! I’m Bec! Welcome to my studio journal where I will share about creativity, process, inspiration, and my artistic journey. I’m a multidisciplinary artist working in my bright and airy home studio in South Central Pennsylvania. I’m incredibly grateful to have such a lovely and inspiring studio space. It’s small, but I designed it to be functional and beautiful. It works great for me as I struggle with chronic pain, fatigue, and depression. I struggle with consistency and productivity due to my health, but creating a space that fits my needs has been helpful for my overall creative process. It was worth all the effort to get this room transformed into an art studio and office space.

I have always been passionate about making and creating. Making art is a very intuitive process for me. The creative process fascinates me, and I love learning about different ways of making and expressing through art. I consider myself to be a multidisciplinary artist, mainly because I don’t like to limit my creative experience. I'm currently focusing mainly on painting and drawing.

From a young age, I was drawing and painting. Filling up sketchbooks with art and poetry. I also loved to dance, sing, play instruments, and write. Making art has always been about expression and process. It’s therapeutic and cathartic for me. It allows me to express myself and my feelings in ways that I struggle to put into words.

I have a formal education in both art and design. For my BFA, my concentration was ceramics and pottery, but I tried as many different disciplines as possible. Painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, fabric and fiber arts, drawing, and even design disciplines like illustration. Even within a discipline, I have experimented with different styles, techniques, processes, and methods. I learned so much by being open to learning about different disciplines, techniques, and processes. I think it’s made me a well-rounded artist and person. Check out my Portfolio links below to see a selection of my past art and design work.

I’m passionate about art. Not just making art, but studying, viewing, and interacting with art. Interacting with art can be a visceral and emotional experience for me. I am easily overwhelmed with emotion when experiencing great artwork. Not surprisingly one of my favorite activities is visiting art museums and galleries. It’s usually at the top of my list when I visit new places. A few of my favorites that I’ve visited are The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, Philadelphia Museum of Art in Pennsylvania, Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, New York, The MOMA in New York City, Tate Modern in London, Musée d'Orsay in Paris, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Next on the list of inspiring places to visit are the botanical gardens and greenhouses. I completely agree with Monet’s sentiments, “I must have flowers, always, and always.” You will find flowers and floral inspiration in most of my artwork and there are usually orchids in my studio to keep me company while I create.

That’s all for now. Please comment below if you have any questions or topics you would like to see me write about. I look forward to sharing more about creativity, process, inspiration, and my artistic journey. Thanks for your interest in my artwork and my creative endeavors.
